It enables them to find their own voice and to develop an intrinsic sense of music as an art form. Musicianship training allows children to explore and discover hundreds of elements of music theory through fun activities and games. These classes allow children to develop a wide range of skills such as musical reading & writing, understanding of form & structure, creativity, memory, ensemble skills, co-ordination, left/right brain skills, independence, as well as pitch/rhythm skills. A sense of ownership at each stage is essential if children are to develop musical independence thus, each stage the issue should not simply be one of attainment, but of mastery.Ĭottage’s Musicianship programme is offered for children aged 2-16 years. If children do not understand the music they are playing they may be less prepared to continue with the disciplined practice required.
